Croatian boxer Filip Hrgović has won gold at the European championship in Bulgaria…
Hrgović beat German Florian Schulz in last night’s final to win the gold in the super heavyweight category.
The 23-year-old from Zagreb has become the second Croat to win a European boxing title and the first Croat to win gold since Mate Parlov, who won gold in 1971 and 1973.
“I have realised my dreams. I still do not have a feeling of what I have actually achieved. I have qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games and now won European gold. Now I hope to win an Olympic medal,” said an excited Hrgović after the fight.
Meanwhile fellow Croatian boxer Hrvoje Sep won bronze last night in the bantamweight division.
