The Croatian brands making a mark on the global market

In recent years, traditional Croatian brands have successfully penetrated international markets, making their presence felt in various countries around the world. 

These brands have a rich heritage, and despite changing consumer preferences and the rise of private labels, they continue to be cherished by consumers worldwide. 

Daily Večernji list delved into how some of these Croatian brands are making waves globally.

Kraš – Exporting Croatian Sweet Delights

Kraš, a well-known Croatian confectionery company, exports its products to more than 35 countries across all continents. Some of their popular products include Bajadera, Napolitanke, Domaćica cookies, and Ki-Ki candies. Saudi Arabia, in particular, has embraced Kraš’s halal Napolitanke to the point where they are considered a national brand.

Zvijezda – Expanding Abroad with Innovative Products

Zvijezda, a part of Fortenova Group, is renowned for its high-quality edible oils and spreads. They have a significant presence in the European Union, North America, and Australia, with Saudi Arabia being one of their strongest markets.

The Nougat Cubes from Zvijezda have been captivating Saudi consumers since 1979. The company is continually working on expanding its export markets while introducing innovative products, such as a new ketchup with “0% added sugar, 50% fewer calories, and the same beloved taste.”

Belje – Known for Traceable Dairy Products

Belje, another Fortenova subsidiary, produces the popular ABC fresh cream cheese. The company’s dedication to traceability, from field to table, has contributed to the success of ABC cheese, which is available in 20 markets across three continents. Besides cheese, Belje offers products like Baranja kulen and wines, expanding its reach to new EU markets and the Middle East.

Jamnica – Dominating the Water Market

Jamnica, known for its mineral water products Jana and Jamnica, exports to over 20 markets, with a strong presence in Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Hungary, and Germany. They’ve made a significant impact in Hungary by introducing flavored mineral water when it didn’t exist in the market. PIK Vrbovec – Quality Meats Worldwide

PIK Vrbovec specializes in high-quality meats and meat products. Their exports extend to 23 foreign markets, with Slovenia being their largest export market, followed by Italy and countries within the CEFTA region. PIK Vrbovec’s adherence to strict quality standards has enabled them to export to demanding markets like the USA, Canada, and Japan.

Vegeta – Legendary seasoning

Vegeta is maybe the most famous Croatian export. Invented Vegeta in 1959. Vegeta’s original condiment is a mixture primarily of salt with flavour enhancers, spices and various vegetables.

In 2021, Vegeta was named as the best-selling dehydrated food seasoning in Europe by Nielsen agency, based on their reports. Vegeta was the leading brand in volume sales in the category of dehydrated (dry) food seasonings in 31 European countries.

Badel 1862 – Leading in Alcoholic Beverages

Badel 1862, in partnership with Vinoplod from Šibenik, is the biggest producer of strong alcoholic beverages and wines in the Adria region. Their products are available in over 30 countries, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, the USA, Canada, and Australia.
