Luka Modrić Named in FIFA World XI

Croatian midfielder Luka Modrić has been named in the FIFA FIFpro World XI, which was announced at a lavish gala in Zurich on Monday.

In early December, FIFPro announced the 55-man shortlist for the 2016 FIFPro XI and today the team was named at The Best FIFA Football Awards.

The team is stacked with players plying their trade in Spain’s La Liga, with Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and Juventus defender Dani Alves the only players in the World XI to play outside of Spain.

Goalkeeper: Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich)

Defenders: Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Gerard Pique (Barcelona), Dani Alves (Juventus) Marcelo (Real Madrid)

Midfielders: Toni Kroos (Real Madrid), Luka Modrić (Real Madrid), Andres Iniesta (Barcelona)

Strikers: Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Luis Suarez (Barcelona)

Each year FIFPro invited all professional footballers in the world to compose the best team of the year, named the FIFPro World XI. Every player was requested to pick one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards.

Modrić, who last week was named in the UEFA Team of the Year, also made the team last year.
