250 Fans Turn up at Zagreb Airport to Welcome Croatia Home from Brazil

CroatiaAround 250 loyal fans braved the rain to welcome the Croatian football side at Zagreb’s Pleso Airport on Wednesday…

The flight from Brazil was delayed, and although initially scheduled to arrive at 11:20am, did not land in Zagreb till just after 1pm local time. The players made their way through arrivals to chants from the fans who decided to turn up at the airport, but they were not hanging around. Only Danijel Pranjić and Gordon Schildenfeld were in the mood to give statements to the waiting media.

“We expected more, of course, but that goal against Mexico cut us down,” said Pranjić, before Schildenfeld added.

“This welcome makes it a bit easier.”

Four players did not arrive back in Croatia with the rest of the squad – Sammir and Eduardo da Silva stayed on Brazil, whilst Ivica Olić went straight to Germany, and Ivan Rakitić went to Spain. (pic: instagram)
