[VIDEO] Stipe Miočić Wins UFC Heavyweight Title



Hard-hitting American-Croatian Stipe Miočić has won the UFC heavyweight title after a one-punch knockout of Fabricio Werdum in the main event of UFC 198 on Saturday night…

Miočić (33) dethroned Werdum in front of 45,000 fans at Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil to become the new UFC heavyweight champion. The fight ended in the 2:47 mark of the opening round when Miočić caught Werdum on the jaw with a looping right hand.

“He’s (Werdum) tough. He hit me, and I knocked him out. I hit him with a right hand and that was it,” Stipe said after the fight, saying that Cleveland and Croatia now have world champion.

Miočić, whose mother hails from Karlovac and father from near the Dalmatian town of Zadar, has visited and trained in Croatia on a few occasions recently with his idol Mirko ‘Cro Cop’ Filipović. Miočić does not hide his love for his parent’s homeland, a couple of years ago he had a large Croatian coat of arms tattooed on his foot.
