Brooklyn Nets centre Justin Hamilton says that is he still keen to play for Croatia – the country of his mother.

This summer Hamilton was on the verge of making his debut for the Croatian basketball team in the 2016 Olympic Games qualifiers, but a call-up by the NBA cut his dream short.

Croatia coach Aco Petrović called up the 6 foot 11 inch centre ahead of important Olympic qualifiers in Italy but Hamilton made himself unavailable at the last minute.

“Last summer I was trying to play for the (Croatia) national team and right before I was going back to play for them the NBA called and I was unable to go. It was a little heart-breaking but at the same time they played really well”, Hamilton told CroatianSports.com.

Hamilton, who spent a year attending elementary school in the Croatian capital Zagreb where his mother is from, is still keen to represent Croatia. He may get to make his debut at EuroBasket 2017.

“We’ll see. Not sure about the dates yet but we’ll see what happens.”
