Zagreb Yarn Craft Fest is an event intended for everyone, either beginners or more advanced crafters, to discover new skills, talents and creativity using fibre arts. Its goal is to promote modern and traditional textile hand crafts and techniques through series of presentations, lectures and creative workshops under renowned instructors.

With the international certified knitting and crochet teacher (Craft Yarn Council Teacher), Adriana Meglaj, you will learn to knit, and Adriana will also present her O’pleti courses.

Maša Žarnić, an artist who has been creating under the pseudonym Sušena Žemljica for the last 15 years, is in charge of crocheting. With her guidance you will learn to crochet a 3D star.

Daniela Stilin is the owner of the fantastic brand Stilin Designs and makes handicrafts using the macrame technique, knitting and embroidery. At the festival, she will pass on her knowledge of making plant holders in the macrame technique.

Felting is a specific technique that has been practiced for a long time by graphic designer, artist and painter Ivna Hraste. Ivna will show you all the secrets of dry felting.

Any Zagreb event which focuses on yarn would be incomplete without the good woollen Zagreb spirit, i.e., Ivona Martinčić and her broken woollen heart, famous street art installation in the Upper city of Zagreb (Gornji Grad). Ivona will lead an eye-graffiti crochet workshop; resulting handicraft can be applied as a graffiti sticker on a garment, bag, wall – or framed as your own little work of art.

You will meet the members of the first generation of the Lepoglava Lace Masters Association from Varaždin, who have been making lace since 1997. These passionate lace makers will also hold a beginner’s workshop of the marvellous Lepoglava lace which won awards at World Fairs: gold in 1937 in Paris, and bronze in 1939 in Berlin.

If you have already tried your hand at making Lepoglava lace, it is time to deepen your knowledge. The workshop on Idrija Lace, an important part of the Slovenian cultural heritage, will be led by Igor Beroš – an experienced Croatian lacemaker who, in cooperation with the Virovitica City Museum, reconstructed the motifs of poculica, a lace head decoration. In 2018, together with like-minded people from all over the world Igor Beroš also launched the Men making lace festival.

Two associations from Vinkovci will participate at the festival; Association “Škrinjica” will hold a workshop on embroidery, and the association “Vrijedne ruke” will organize a small fashion show as part of its presentation and hold a Sun Lace Motifs workshop, traditional unique embroidery of Slavonia.

Tea Šilić, owner of Igla i kukica, will hold an expert lecture “One hundred threads, one hundred whims – The first step into the enchanting world of yarn”, covering the origin of fibres and their properties, processing threads (dyeing, spinning, twisting) and sustainability.
