Roland Garros: Croatian Hopes End With Cilic Exit

Croatia were left without a women’s or men’s player in the draw at Roland Garros after Marin Cilic was beaten by Serbian Viktor Troicki in straight sets 7:6, 6:4, 7:5 on Friday in the 3rd round. The Croatian number one, who had looked untroubled advancing to the 3rd round, has now lost 3 times to the Serb who has been ranked as high as number 12 in the world. Cilic, who parted company with coach Bob Brett just before the French Open, was hoping to break into the world top 10 with a good showing at the year’s second Grand Slam, but after Friday’s 2 hour and 40 minute battle with Troicki again misses out.
