Rizi bizi has been a popular side dish in Croatia for a long, long time and is especially a favourite for a lot of kids.
Rizi bizi, or rice with peas, tends to go best as a side dish with crumbed schnitzel, meat or a spicy sausage main.

Peas – 160 g
Rice (parboiled) – 200 g
Butter – 1 tablespoon
Onion – 1/2
Vegetable stock – 600 ml
1. In a pan heat up butter and olive oil. Add the diced onions and salt. Let cook until the onions go soft.
2. Add rice and fry for a minute or two. Add the vegetable stock then turn down the heat to low and cook for around 10 minutes.
3. Now add the peas, a bit of olive oil, pinch of salt and pepper and mix. Turn the heat off, cover and leave for 5 minutes.
4. Rizi bizi is ready to serve.
