SPLIT, 10 June 2019 – The new Split suburban railway connecting the ferry terminal in downtown Split with Kopilica will launch tomorrow.

The first train from Koplica, which is east of the city, to the ferry terminal in the centre of Split will launch on Tuesday, 11 June, 2019 at 10:11 am.

The new suburban metro railway will depart every 20 minutes with the trip taking four minutes. Tickets, which will also be valid for the bus in zone one, will cost 11 kuna, daily Slobodna Dalmacija reported.

A link to serve the city centre as well as Split Airport is also planned in the future for the suburban railway. The funds for electrification of the rail line and the construction of the new segments are planned to be sought in EU cohesion funds.

Croatian minister for transport and infrastructure Oleg Butkovic visited Split Airport in March this year and stated that the 7km of new tracks necessary to connect the airport to Split with rail are in the planning process by Croatian Railways-Infrastructure and that he hopes that the work will commence in 2021.
