Festival of Istrian Pasta named on Europe’s 25 best summer food festivals list

Summer is around the corner and once again there will be dozens of festivals held around the country over the next three months.

Croatia is renowned for its first class food and one particular festival you don’t want has just been included among the best in Europe.

Global travel site Big 7 Travel recently released its list of The 25 Best Summer Food Festivals In Europe.

“We’ve been checking out suggestions from our audience as well as contributions from the Big 7 Travel editorial team. We also followed certain criteria for the ranking, from must-try dishes and festival history to original and postponed festival dates and attendance numbers. We’ve narrowed it down to really find the very best that Europe has to offer,” Big 7 Travel said.

Ranked at No.21 on the list is the Istrian Pasta Festival, which is held this year on 2-3 July in Žminj on Croatia’s Istrian peninsula.

“Pasta lovers, unite. Istria has firmly earnt the right to have pasta firmly in its cuisine. It’s up there with one of the best places in the world for food lovers to visit, and you’ll understand why at this festival. Set in a quaint village behind the old citadel, people gather from all over to try unique and traditional homemade pasta. Tuck in to truffle pasta, fuži with prosciutto and rocket, makaruni with Istrian beef sauce, ravioli with shrimps and zucchini, ravioli with porcini mushrooms and parmesan cream, gnocchi with chocolate, and more. From eating it to making it, festival-goers can learn to make traditional and local pasta shapes, watch food shows, and the little ones can get involved with kid’s workshops, too.”

Topping the list this year was the Sardine Festival in Portimão, Portugal.

In second place was the Copenhagen Cooking Festival, Copenhagen followed by the Trøndelag Food Festival in Trondheim Norway, the Napoli Pizza Village Festival in Naples and the Blenheim Palace Food Festival in Woodstock, England.
