French Open: Croatia’s Petra Martić wins through to the 3rd round

PARIS, 1 October 2020 – 29-year-old Croatian Petra Martić has moved into the third round at Roland Garros on Thursday.

13th seed Martić had to come from behind to beat Veronika Kudermetova from Russia 6-7, 7-5, 6-3.

Martić, who beat Misaki Doi from Japan in the first round, lost the opening set in a tie-break and was down a break in the second set before she moved into another gear.

She would come back from 1-2 down in the second to claim it 6-4 before wrapping up the deciding set 6-4. She will meet German Laura Siegemund in the third round.

Martić is the only remaining Croatian in the singles draw after Marin Čilić, Borna Ćorić and Donna Vekić were all knocked out in the first round.
