Five-star boutique hotel opens off Zagreb’s Ban Jelačić square

ZAGREB, 7 Oct (Hina) – The five-star MET Boutique Hotel, comprising 26 rooms, a spa, a conference hall, a roof terrace and other amenities, was officially opened in Zagreb on Monday, with Tourism and Sports Minister Nikolina Brnjac being among the guests at the ceremony. 

The five-storey hotel, located in the city centre, was opened by Brnjac, owner and investor Ahmet Ulaj, who owns the Gener 2 company which made the investment, and Zagreb Deputy Mayor Luka Korlaet.

Ulaj is an Albanian businessman who has been doing business in Croatia for several years. He launched the hotel project in 2017.

Asked by Hina about the value of the investment, he said that it was difficult to say as the financial structure of the project was still not closed and some of the work remained to be completed.

The hotel is located in Zagreb’s Praška Ulica street, in the immediate vicinity of the city’s central Ban Josip Jelačić square.

The hotel is small but its symbolism is great because it points to the friendship between Croatia and Albania and we believe it is a value for the city as well, Ulaj said, expressing respect for the Albanian community in Croatia whose representatives also attended the ceremony.

Minister Brnjac, who was Prime Minister Andrej Plenković’s envoy at the event, said that the hotel was a contribution to the government’s efforts to encourage investments in quality tourism facilities, noting that in recent years the number of four and five-star hotels and camping sites in Croatia had doubled.

“Since 2017 €6.2 billion has been invested in quality in the tourism sector in Croatia. We are continuing with those efforts through investments under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and other sources,” the minister said.

Zagreb Deputy Mayor Luka Korlaet expressed satisfaction with the hotel project, noting that its high-level architecture was contributing to the urban restoration of the city and enriching the city’s tourism offering.
