The only authentic Istrian restaurant has opened in the Croatian capital Zagreb.

Late last month, Vodnjanka opened its doors in downtown Zagreb in Gundulićeva street. The restaurant has been opened by the Celija family, who have run the Vodnjanka restaurant in Vodnjan, Istria for 40 years.

The predominantly meat restaurant serves up a number of specialities from Istria, such as boškarin, Istrian pršut, wild asparagus, truffles, maneštra, homemade pasta and local wines.

“We did not choose the location by chance. With a capacity of around 30 people, our wish is to make all of our guests feel like they are in their living room. When we saw this space we knew it was the right place for us,” Svjetlana and her daughter Ivana Celija told Telegram.hr

Through the Zagreb restaurant, the family plans to tell their culinary story which has a 40-year tradition in Vodnjan. All ingredients used in the restaurant come from the fields and gardens of Vodnjan and around the area.

“The menu is traditional with modern additions and will change depending on the season and time of year. With regards to prices, homemade pasta is between 90 and 140 kuna, whilst steak with truffles is 240 kuna,” they added.
