Dina Levačić (21) Becomes First Croatian to Swim Around Manhattan

21-year-old Dina Levačić became the first Croatian to swim around Manhattan on Sunday, 25 June 2017.

Dina, who is originally from Split but is currently a student in Zagreb, completed the 46 km swim on Sunday, starting from the southern shore, near where the World Trade Centre was, along the East and Harlem Rivers, and finally through the Hudson River, swimming under 20 bridges connecting Manhattan with the rest of New York.

Dina set off just before 9:00 am local time and had to battle some moody river currents and worsening weather as she entered the Hudson River which made swimming conditions difficult.

She managed to successfully complete the daunting swim in a time of 7:33:50.

The Manhattan swim was the first in Dina’s Tripple Crown project, where she aims to become the first person from Croatia to swim around Manhattan, swim 34 km from Catalina Island to Los Angeles, which she will do in August, and the first Croatian to swim across La Manche (34 km in September).
