Croats March On At Australian Open

Croatian tennis player Ivan Dodig will join countrymen Marin Cilic in the third round of the Australian Open after a 5-set marathon victory over Finland’s Jarkko Nieminen today.

Dodig(28) hit 33 aces and saved 17 break-points in his 3 hour 28 minute 6:3, 6:7 (4), 6:3, 6:7 (4), 6:1 victory. Dodig now faces 9th seed Richard Gasquet in the next round.

It was a lot more comfortable for Marin Cilic today, Croatia’s top seed beat Rajeev Ram in straight sets 7:5, 6:2, 6:4. Meanwhile Australian-Croatian Bernard Tomic also made it into the 4th round, but Donna Vekic’s Australian Open ended after she lost to Caroline Wozniacki today.
