Croatians Win US Open Boys and Girls Titles!

Ana_Konjuh_at_the_2013_US_Open_1It has been an amazing day for Croatian tennis at Flushing Meadows in New York on Sunday with Croatians claiming both the Boys and Girls singles titles.

Croatian Borna Ćorić won the US Open Junior Boy’s final title after beating Austria’s Thanasi Kokkinakis 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. Ćorić, who was the tournaments 4th seed, was in his first Grand Slam final after making the semi-final at this year’s Australian Open and French Open.

Later in the day teenage Croatian tennis sensation Ana Konjuh added the US Open to her Australian Open singles and doubles titles when she beat American Tornado Alicia Black in the final 3-6, 6-4, 7-6. Dubrovnik-born Konjuh (15) is the World Number 1 ranked junior and is expected to be Croatia’s next top 10 senior women’s player.
