Croatia beats Egypt to win FIFA Series in Cairo

Croatia has won the FIFA Series 2024 in Egypt after comfortably beating the hosts at the Cairo International Stadium on Tuesday night. 

Nikola Vlašić, Bruno Petković, Andrej Kramarić and Lovro Majer all got on the score sheet in Croatia’s come from behind 4-2 win. 

Coach Zlatko Dalić made a number of changes from the side which beats Tunisia in the semi-final as he gave all squad members a run.

5th minute – Egypt’s centre-back Rabia steers the ball in from close range after a cross from the left following a free kick to make it 1-0 to the hosts.

21st minute – Great goal by Nikola Vlašić. The Torino midfielder cuts inside before striking with his left foot from about 20 meters out and his shot would hit under the crossbar and go in to make it 1-1.

45+3 minutes – Marko Pjaca beats two men down the left before squaring back to Petković but he was unable to get a good strike on it and his effort would go wide. 

57th minute – Luka Modrić finds Bruno Petković unmarked at the back post with his corner and the Dinamo Zagreb striker powerfully heads home to make it 2-1. 

77th minute – Substitute Andrej Kramarić, playing his 90th international, heads home a Lovro Majer free-kick at the near post to make it 3-1 to Croatia. 

86th minute – Lovro Majer curls a shot into the top corner from the edge of the box after good lead up play from Kramarić. 

90+3 minutes – Egypt gets a consolation goal when Abdelmonem heads home a cross from the right.

Croatia’s last two friendlies before Euro 2024 will be against North Macedonia on June 3 at the HNK Rijeka stadium in Rijeka and against Portugal on June 8 at the National Stadium in Lisbon.
