ZAGREB, 1 July 2021 – During the first six months of 2021, there were 2.6 million arrivals and 11.8 million overnights in Croatia.

This is 54% more arrivals and 53% more overnights than in the same period last year. At the same time, foreign tourists recorded 9.1 million overnights, while domestic tourists recorded 2.7 million overnights. These are the initial data of the eVisitor system, which records tourist traffic generated in commercial and non-commercial facilities and nautical charter (eCrew system), the Croatian National Tourist Board said in a statement.

Most tourist overnights were recorded in Istria (3.6 million), Kvarner (2.2 million) and in the Split-Dalmatia County (1.8 million), followed by Zadar (1.6 million overnights) then Šibenik-Knin County (732,000) and Dubrovnik-Neretva County (624,000).

When looking by destinations, the highest number of overnights recorded since the beginning of the year was in Rovinj (681,000 thousand), Zagreb (427,000) and Poreč (418,000). Looking by markets, the largest number of overnights in 2021 to date was recorded by foreign guests from Germany (2.4 million), Slovenia (1.5 million), Austria (987,000), Poland (866,000) and the Czech Republic (681,000). Based on the type of accommodation, most overnights were recorded in household facilities, hotels and camps.

“So far we are extremely satisfied with the results of the tourist year 2021 and the announcements for the months ahead. At the moment, 425,000 tourists are staying in Croatia, which is about 100,000 more than at the same time last year. In the coming weeks, the peak of the season awaits us, and we must all be aware that the precondition for the further continuation of such results is a favorable epidemiological situation in Croatia. The recognizability of Croatia as a safe destination for which tourists choose our country gives us the opportunity for better financial results and the continued development of tourism, and thus faster economic recovery”, said Minister of Tourism and Sports Nikolina Brnjac.

“According to the tourist results achieved in the first half of this year, Croatia is still at the very top of the safest and most desirable tourist destinations in the Mediterranean. In June alone, we achieved over 60 percent better results than in June last year. We have entered the most important part of the tourist season in which we expect the largest number of guests from inbound markets where we are currently running a major call campaign “Trust me, I’ve been there”. We can be satisfied with the results achieved, but at the same time we must remain cautious because a favorable epidemiological situation is a prerequisite for the normal course of the season. Let’s be conscientious and responsible so we do not jeopardize the most important tourist months ahead”, said the Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board Kristjan Staničić.

During June this year, there were 1.5 million arrivals and 7.9 million overnights i.e. 62% more arrivals and 61% more overnights than in June 2020. Guests from Germany (1.6 million), Slovenia (1.2 million) and Austria (805,000) spent the most nights in Croatia. Most tourist overnights were recorded in Istria (2.4 million), Kvarner (1.5 million) and in Split-Dalmatia County (1.3 million), while the most popular destinations were Rovinj with 439,000 overnights, Poreč (266,000) and Vir (232,000).
