In just over a month, the Knin Fortress, the largest fortification in Dalmatia, will receive an attraction unlike any other in Croatia.

A zipline will connect Knin Fortress with the sports and recreational zone of Marunuša, spanning over the Krka River. What makes the Knin zipline unique in Croatia is the fact that the ride through the stunning landscape will be accessible to people with disabilities, Slobodna Dalmacija reported.

This is part of the grand plans that the local authorities have for Knin’s greatest symbol, indicating the direction in which the city aims to develop its tourism sector.

It’s worth noting that the construction of the zipline system is part of the Intervention Plan for the City of Knin. As part of this plan, functional and decorative lighting, low-voltage networks, surveillance cameras, a reconstructed and furnished interpretation centre, a wine shop/souvenir shop, and a renovated and equipped restaurant kitchen have been installed at the Knin Fortress.

The starting point of the 640-meter-long zipline at the Knin Fortress will be on the right bank of the Krka, descending to the cliff on the left, and then ending again on the right bank in the Marunuša area.

The construction project of the zipline system costs around 360,000 euros, with a significant portion of this amount coming from the European funds.

Zdenka Gugo, the head of the project team for the implementation of the Intervention Plan for the City of Knin, confirmed that the entire project is proceeding according to plan. Currently, there is a tender for a concessionaire who will operate guided visits and manage the zipline system for the next five years.

“The construction work is completed; we have submitted a request for technical approval. Currently, the tender for the concession is ongoing and will conclude on March 18th this year. If everything goes as planned, we believe that the zipline could be operational by early April,” concluded Zdenka Gugo.
