Croatia Claims Bronze Medal at 13th Geography Olympiad in China

Croatian student have claimed the bronze medal at the 13th Geography Olympiad held in Beijing, China this week…

The International Geography Olympiad (iGeo) is a competition for the best 16 to 19 year old geography students from all over the world which this year saw 45 countries take part from every continent.

Croatia were represented in Beijing by Luka Banović (Rijeka), Petar Suman (Zagreb), Juraj Vladika (Zagreb) and David Zima (Osijek), with all receiving bronze medals, the Croatian Geographical Association said.

The 4-day competition was broken up into three parts: written, multimedia and practical exam. All the participants worked individually with their results forming the team score. The official language of the iGeo is English.

The Croatian team was selected based on results over the last few years from Geography state exams. The team was led in Beijing by Dubravka Spevec and Marin Cvitanović.

Croatia have won a total of medals now at 6 International Geography Olympiads since taking part in 2010, including 6 gold, 5 silver and 8 bronze.
