Construction begins on key road project – new gateway for the Croatian coastal city of Split.

Official work has begun on the implementation of the connecting road project from the Vučevica interchange on the A1 motorway to the interchange on the DC8 state road, as part of which the construction site for the Kozjak tunnel near the Vučevica toll station will open today, daily Večernji list reported.

Minister of the Sea, Transport, and Infrastructure, Oleg Butković, will attend the opening of the roadworks, which is considered the new entrance to the city of Split.

The project will be executed by the Chinese company China Road and Bridge Corporation, the same one that worked on the construction of the Pelješac Bridge.

This will provide Split with a new entrance from the A1, handling transit traffic from highways to the ferry port and vice versa.

The contract was signed at the end of September last year, valued at 74.6 million euros excluding VAT.

The total length of this connecting road will be 6.85 kilometres, including the 2.5-kilometre-long Kozjak tunnel and the 4.3-kilometre road leading to the Adriatic Highway.
