The President of the Republic Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović presented the Charter of the Republic of Croatia for services in preserving and strengthening the bonds between the Croatian Homeland and the Croatians from the Diaspora at a formal reception hosted by the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau.
The Charter of the Republic of Croatia was presented to the Catholic parishes and churches, the Canadian Croatian Folklore Federation, the umbrella sports association of North America and the radio programme for their work in providing spiritual care, preserving the language, the cultural and national identity, and promoting community spirit among the Croatian communities through sports activities.
Thanking all those who invested years, patience and efforts to preserve the Croatian community, and who presented to their second homeland the very best of their Croatia, which is always in their hearts, President Grabar-Kitarović noted that without their dedication to promoting patriotism, such a gathering would not be possible today. “There would be no community spirit among you in distant parts of this great country where you have remained strongly connected, thanks to your parishes, folklore groups and sports clubs that join you, as well as the radio programmes that do not allow your community spirit to diminish in your daily activities”, the President stated.
Congratulating all the recipients of recognitions for preserving this unity, the President expressed confidence that they will be a stimulus for their further committed work in joining the Croatian Homeland and Croatians from the Diaspora. “I look forward to your every visit to the Homeland. I know that you have not and that you will not forget Croatia, and that the new generation of Croatians in Canada will always know that they are welcome in their Croatia”, President Grabar-Kitarović stated.
