ZAGREB, 10 May, 2019 – The Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) informed users of electronic communications services today that as of Wednesday, May 15, 2019, sending SMS messages and making calls from Croatia to any number in EU countries will be cheaper.

All Croatian operators have to adjust the prices of their calls and SMSs to the EU-level limit. The price limit applies exclusively to private users.

Prices can not be higher than the following from 15 May:

  • 1.76 kn/per minute for calls
  • 0.55 kn/ per text message (SMS)

“The Regulation introducing the new price limit rules on calls and SMSs covers only EU-based communications services, which are based on consumption per volume unit and are offered to customers (private users)”, HAKOM said.

Regulated prices apply to calls and SMS messages to any fixed or mobile number in any EU member state, including those part of the EU single market.

The EU member states are: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

The regulated prices in the EU also applies to Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein after the adoption of appropriate legislation.

Price restrictions will automatically apply unless the user currently uses alternative international tariffs for international calls and decides to remain on it, or deliberately has selected an alternative tariff.

If the current user has an alternative international calling tariff, the operator shall notify them before May 15, 2019 of the new price restrictions that will start to apply to their fixed tariff from that date. If the user does not explicitly request the retention of the existing tariff, the operator shall automatically switch it to a regulated tariff from 15 July 2019.
