Advent in Zagreb is announced - 43 days and over 20 locations

Advent Zagreb, which has won numerous awards in the past for being the best in Europe, will be ushered in this year with the lighting of the first Advent candle on Ban Jelačić Square. 

Advent Zagreb will take place from November 26 to January 7, 2023, it was announced today. 

After a two-year break, visitors will again be able to enjoy Ice Park and ice rink on Kralj Tomislav Square (Tomislavac).

Advent in Zagreb will officially start on November 26 with the lightning of the first Advent candle at 5 p.m. on the main square, before official openings at 6 p.m. at locations in the Upper Town, at 7 p.m. at Ice Park on Tomislavac and at 8 p.m. on Zrinjevac when the most beautiful Advent lights in the city will be turned on.

Apart from the return of Ice Park and the skating rink, there will be three new locations this year during Advent –  Dr. Franjo Tuđman Square, Grič Park and in the new pedestrian zone in Stara Vlaška street. Advent in the Zoo also makes its return this year.

With an emphasis this year on waste and ecology, Advent events will be ecologically sustainable, biodegradable packaging will be used and waste separation points will be set up at all locations.

Zagreb Tourist Board director Martina Bienenfeld said that Advent in Zagreb will last 43 days and take place at over 20 locations in the city.

“More than 100 concerts will be held in closed and open city spaces and on squares and streets. There will be exhibitions in museums and galleries and the cooperation with the HNK in Zagreb, the Croatian Chamber of Crafts and the Zagreb Zoo, they are also preparing special programs,” said Bienenfeld.

“Emphasis is placed on the quality and quantity of planned cultural, musical and entertainment content and the arrangement of locations. With this, we got a diverse cultural offer for all generations, a different food offer, a large offer of domestic products and many other interesting things,” Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević said at today’s press conference.
