2019 World Handball Championship: Croatia makes it two wins from two

MUNICH, 13 January 2019 – Croatia has made it two wins from their opening two matches at the 2019 IHF World Men’s Handball Championship on Sunday.

Croatia, who beat Iceland in a tough match 31-27 in their opener on Friday, has beaten Japan comfortably 35-27 on Sunday in Munich.

Marin Šego in the Croatia goal was again in great form making a number of saves in the first half. Domagoj Duvnjak, Zlatko Horvat, Igor Karačić and Luka Stepančić were clinical on attack to make sure Croatia went in at the break 18-13 up. 

Japan failed to offer any real resistance in the second half as Croatia extended their lead to 10 goals early in the half. The goals kept coming, and there were more great saves in goal this time from Ivan Stevanović as Lino Čevar gave game time to his bench.

Croatia eventually ran out winners by 8 goals.  

Once again their was a large Croatian presence in the Munich crowd with around 5,000 estimated in the stands. 

There is no rest for Lino Čevar’s side as they face Macedonia next up tomorrow.

11 January: Croatia 31 – 27 Iceland

13 January at 16:30: Croatia 35 – 27 Japan

14 January at 18:00: Croatia – Macedonia

16 January at 18:00: Croatia – Bahrain

17 January at 20:30: Spain – Croatia 

The 2019 World Handball Championships are being held in Denmark and Germany until 27 January 2019.
