100 Castles in Northern Croatia project to launch

ZAGREB, Dec 28 (Hina) – Three northern Croatian counties will implement the “100 Castles in Northern Croatia” project over the next three years, the Varazdin County Tourism Board said on Monday after an agreement was signed to join the projects.
The agreement was signed by Krapina-Zagorje County prefect Zeljko Kolar, Medjimurje County prefect Matija Posavec and the head of the Varazdin County Tourism Board, Zeljko Bedekovic, marking the official launch of the project.
The project will be implemented in Krapina-Zagorje, Varazdin and Medjimurje counties over the next three years.
The 100 castles in northern Croatia will connect castles, curia and forts in northern Croatia and combine them into a comprehensive tourism product that will facilitate their positioning as a tourist attraction and their reconstruction.

The activities over the next three years will focus on systematising castles, curia and forts in the region, selecting the best presentable castles, creating a unique, common visual slogan and promoting them on the local and foreign markets.
The project can also be extended to include other cultural, tangible and non-tangible heritage content such as ethno-villages, customs, tradition and contemporary art and other content.

The Varazdin County Tourism Board expects the competent ministry, other institutions, owners of castles, curia and forts as well as local government and businesses to support the project and create added value for the community by ensuring the sustainable use of cultural heritage.
