Zagreb announces New Year’s Eve and children’s New Year open-air concerts

As has become tradition, the City of Zagreb will mark the end of the year with two major public celebrations on 31 December,  the main New Year’s Eve event on Ban Josip Jelačić Square and a special children’s New Year celebration on Petar Preradović Square.

Both events are free and open to the public, offering music, entertainment and a festive atmosphere in the heart of the Croatian capital.

New Year’s Eve on Ban Jelačić Square

Zagreb’s central square will once again host a full evening of live music, featuring some of the region’s most popular performers. The programme will be hosted by Martina Validžić, journalist and travel documentary author.

The New Year’s Eve celebration on Ban Jelačić Square is organised by the City of Zagreb in cooperation with the Zagreb Tourist Board.

Programme:

• 19:30 – Idem

• 20:45 – Luzeri

• 22:00 – Elemental

• 23:30 – Dubioza Kolektiv

Thousands of locals and visitors are expected to gather to welcome the New Year with music and celebrations in the open air.

Children’s New Year on Petar Preradović Square

Earlier in the day, Zagreb’s youngest residents will have their own New Year celebration on Petar Preradović Square. The children’s programme will feature a concert by Bojan Jambrošić, joined by the children’s choir Zagrepčanke i dečki. The event will be hosted by Miro Čabraja.

The children’s New Year celebration is organised by the City of Zagreb and the Travno Cultural Centre.

Programme:

• 11:30 – Bojan Jambrošić and the children’s choir Zagrepčanke i dečki

• 12:00 – Children’s New Year countdown

• 12:05 – Bojan Jambrošić and the children’s choir Zagrepčanke i dečki

Weather forecast

Those planning to welcome the New Year outdoors are advised to dress warmly. According to the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ), there will be no rain.

31 December in Zagreb is expected to be sunny and cold during the day, with cloud cover arriving in the evening and temperatures dropping below zero overnight. On New Year’s Day, temperatures are forecast to rise to around six degrees Celsius.
