Croatia has made a notable appearance in the latest Numbeo Quality of Life Index, ranking 20th globally in 2025 with a score of 181.7, marking the country’s debut among the world’s best-performing nations for overall living standards.
The index, based on millions of user-contributed data points from around the world, measures key factors such as purchasing power, safety, healthcare, pollution, cost of living, climate, and traffic commute times.
European countries continue to dominate the rankings. Luxembourg takes the top spot this year with a score of 218.2, followed closely by the Netherlands (216.5) and Denmark (215.1).
The top ten is largely European, with the exceptions of Oman, which tied for third place, and New Zealand, which sits in tenth position.
Switzerland, long a leader in quality of life metrics, now ranks fifth, maintaining a strong position despite a slight dip compared to its 2015 score.
Croatia’s entry into the top 20 represents a major step forward for the country.
The comparison between 2015 and 2025 shows considerable movement among global leaders.
The Netherlands rose from 14th to 2nd place, a remarkable climb of 12 spots.
Norway also advanced from 11th to 7th.
Meanwhile, Canada suffered the largest drop, falling from 9th in 2015 to 27th in 2025.
Countries such as Germany, Australia, and Sweden remained within the top 15 but saw minor declines.
