LONDON, 3 July 2019 – Croatia’s Petra Martić has advanced through to the 3rd round at Wimbledon on Wednesday with a come from behind victory at the All England Club.

Martic (28) came from a set down to beat Anastasia Potapova, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to move into the 3rd round.

The 24th-seed Croatian was broken early in the opening set by her Russian opponent who is ranked no.81 in the world. She would capitalise on Martic’s unforced errors in the opening set to take a 1-0 lead.

In the second set, Martic showed more of the form that saw her reach the French Open quarterfinal last month and after breaking Potapova levelled the match at 1 set all.

Martic set the tone in the third set by breaking Potapova in her first service game. This would be enough as she would hold her serve for the rest of the set to take the match.

Martic, whose best performance at Wimbledon came in 2017 when she reached the 4th round, will face 12th seed Anastasija Sevastova from Latvia in the 3rd round.
