Water Polo Olympic Qualifiers: Croatia beats France to remain unbeaten

ROTTERDAM, 19 February 2021 – The Croatian water polo team has reached the semi-finals at the Olympic Qualifying tournament in Rotterdam.

Ivica Tucek’s team turned in an impressive performance to comfortably beat Georgia on Friday 15-6 to reach the semi-finals and take another big step towards booking a ticket to Tokyo. 

After trailing 2-1 in the early stages, Loren Fatovic and Maro Jokovic led the way for Croatia as they would score six unanswered goals which would help them to a 9-3 lead at halftime.

In the second half, quick early goals saw Croatia stretch the lead to eight and put the game out of reach of the Georgians.

Croatia will now face Montenegro in the semi-finals tomorrow.

Croatia finished second in Group B after four wins against Romania the Netherlands, France and Germany, and one loss to Russia.

The top three teams at the end of the tournament will qualify for the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
