A Croatian a cappella group from the University of Zadar have come up with a novel way to attract sponsors to help get them to New York after they were invited to perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall.

Matea Biloglav, Nikolina Brala, Karla Drezga, Ana-Marija Galiot, Lucija Grabovac, , Dora Kanjer, Nives Majetić, Filip Panza, Marko Petrov, Filip Rušin, and Jakov Šuto make up the klapa group A.K.A. Crescendo who have been invited to perform in New York’s Carnegie Hall as part of the Total Vocal event on 24 March 2019.

A.K.A. Crescendo are the only group from Croatia invited to the annual event which presents a celebration of contemporary a cappella with singers from all around the world. This year, the annual event at Carnegie Hall features arranger, producer, and conductor Deke Sharon along with celebrity guests from “Pitch Perfect” and “The Sing-Off”.

“New York is far away and there is not much time to collect sponsors, but we hope to make it. We don’t have an agent or manager but we have our songs so we hope to attract someone. We have managed to cover most of the expenses ourselves for accommodation, visas and airline tickets for 12 people. We have accepted the invitation to perform and confirmed we will be coming. We have spent more than 100,000 kuna from our funds. We still require around 50,000 kuna so we can travel in peace,” the group’s leader Matea Biloglav told Jutarnji list

In an attempt to charm potential sponsors in Croatia the group have made a mash-up video of popular jingles from adverts from some of the nation’s largest companies and posted the it on Facebook, tagging the companies.

“Dear sponsors, maybe we are young and crazy, but at least we are original! Our mail/inbox/mobile/mailbox/open window in case of pigeon mail is waiting for you,” they wrote with the video.
