Croatian fans from all over the world have started to flood in Kaliningrad ahead of Croatia’s World Cup opener against Nigeria on Saturday night.
Over 5,000 Croatian fans from Croatia, Germany, America, Canada, Australia, South Africa and other parts of the world are in Kaliningrad and on Friday the atmosphere was slowly building around the city with songs echoing from cafes in town.
A number of Croatian fans have made the long trek from America, Canada and even Australia for the World Cup.
“I am from New York, my girlfriend is from Ukraine and we met in America. We have come here (to Russia) to watch Croatia and other nations. Ajmo Hrvatska,” the Croatian-American fan said.
As usual, there is a strong presence of Croatian fans from Germany.
“We are Croatians from Germany. It is great here. Perfect to be part of the World Cup here in Russia. We have tickets for tomorrow’s match and we hope it will be good. It will be 3-0 to Croatia, goals to Mandzukic and Rakitic,” fans told reporters.
Croatia and Nigeria kick off at 9 pm CET on Saturday night.
