Zagreb, April 9, 2024 – Midge Ure, the vocalist of the legendary band Ultravox, is coming to Tvornica Kulture in the Croatian capital this autumn.

Winner of the Ivor Novello, Grammy, and BASCAP awards, holder of numerous gold and platinum records, producer of Band Aid and Live Aid, and one of the most recognisable voices of all time, will perform in Zagreb on Thursday, October 24, 2024, bringing the greatest hits from his illustrious career.

Ultravox – “Vienna”

Midge Ure has built an exceptionally rich musical career spanning decades – from his early days with Slik, The Rich Kids, Thin Lizzy, and Visage to the iconic frontman role for Ultravox.

With his powerful vocals and innovative lyrics, Midge shaped the landscape of world pop music. The band had a direct and significant influence on the romantic and electro-pop movements of the early eighties, their success combining Midge’s powerful guitar riffs with lush synthesizer sounds, enigmatic imagery, and cutting-edge visuals. Songs like “Reap the Wild Wind,” “Dancing With Tears in My Eyes,” “Love’s Great Adventure,” and the iconic “Vienna” from 1981 became massive global hits, regularly climbing the charts with each release. In just six years, they had seven consecutive albums in the top 10 on major charts.

Midge Ure – “If I Was”

Throughout his time playing in bands, Midge regularly embarked on various solo projects, building his solo career. He wrote and produced songs for other bands, such as the song “Fade to Grey” for Visage in 1981.

However, November 25, 1984, was a historic day for Midge and the entire music history. Midge was then the producer of Band Aid, consisting of as many as 36 performers who gathered at SARM Studios in West London to record one of the biggest and best-selling singles in music history – “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”

The song, co-written by Ure and Sir Bob Geldof of The Boomtown Rats, who will be arriving at Tvornica kulture this spring with his band, aimed to raise money to alleviate hunger in Africa. The song sold 600 thousand copies in the first week alone, with an additional 800 thousand copies sold in the second week in the UK and over three million copies sold worldwide.

The project in 1985 led to Live Aid, the biggest and most famous concert of all time, raising £8 million for the hungry in Africa, with the legendary Sir Bob Geldof acknowledging that without Midge Ure, the project would not have been feasible.

Shortly after Live Aid, Midge focused on his solo career. He reached the top spot in Britain with his single “If I Was,” and by autumn, he had released his solo album “The Gift,” which reached number two.

This was followed by solo albums “Answers to Nothing” in 1988, “Pure” in 1991, and “Breathe” in 1994, which sold over half a million copies in Europe alone. Additionally, Midge wrote and produced music for other artists and films, and performed at the Music for Montserrat benefit at the Royal Albert Hall with Sir Paul McCartney, Elton John, and Eric Clapton. He also received honorary doctorates from the University of Edinburgh and Dundee.

In April 2009, Ultravox reunited and in 2012 finally released a new studio album, culminating in a major tour where they performed as special guests on the UK tour with the great Simple Minds, ending in the unique London O2 Arena.

Midge simultaneously continued to perform and record solo works. In 2014, he released “Fragile,” returning to his progressive synth roots and introspective lyrics. After concluding his extensive tour in 2017, he released his latest album “Orchestrated,” featuring reimagined material with a cinematic sound landscape.
