SPLIT, 18 July 2019 – Hajduk Split have been beaten by Gzira United from Malta on away goals after their first qualifying round ties of the 2019/2020 Europa League ended 3-3 on aggregate.

Goals to Adam Gyurcso and Ivan Dolček in the first leg in Malta last week gave Hajduk Split a 2-0 lead ahead of tonight’s clash at Poljud stadium in Split in front of 18,236 fans.

The Maltese Premier League club needed an early goal to get back in the clash but it was the home side who would find the back of the net first when Lebanese international Bassel Jradi found the back of the net in the 7th minute after some good work from Josip Bašić.

Gzira United equalised in the 57th minute when Jefferson headed home a cross from Arthur. Kone would put the visitors in front in the 69th minute before scoring the decisive winner in the 5th minute of added time to give the Maltese side a 3-1 win on the night and the win on away goals.

Gzira United will meet Latvian side FK Ventspils in the second qualifying round.
