Two Croatians shortlisted for world’s best young footballer award

Two Croatians have been shortlisted for the 2022 Golden Boy award. 

The Golden Boy award is won by Europe’s best young player aged under 21 in a calendar year and today the shortlist of nominees were announced.  

20-year-old Leipzig defender Joško Gvardiol and talented 19-year-old youth international Stipe Biuk have all made the final shortlist of 60 players.

Salzburg’s Luka Sučić was originally named among the first 100 nominees but he did not make the shortlist.

The Golden Boy Award was founded by Tuttosport in 2003, and includes journalists from The Times, L’Equipe, Marca, Bild, De Telegraf and other European big houses. 

Past winners of the award include Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, Wayne Rooney and Kylian Mbappe.
