ZAGREB, 10 July 2025 – Food outlet store Žabac has launched a new promotion that has quickly caught the public’s attention.

Ham and cheese sandwiches are now on sale for just 0.29 euros each, a huge reduction from their original price of 3.55 euros – a 92 percent discount.

The deal sparked interest online after many social media users suggested the sandwiches are leftovers from the recent Marko Perković Thompson concert held at Zagreb’s Hipodrome.

Over 500,000 people attended the event, which took place on Saturday.

The packaging of the sandwiches, featuring red and white chequered patterns, fuelled speculation that they were originally prepared for the concert but remained unsold.

Žabac Food Outlet, which specialises in discounted food items, then confirmed the origin of the sandwiches in a light-hearted Facebook post.

“Yes, it is true! We are selling sandwiches from the Thompson concert for 0.29 euros (2.20 kuna). We also have ring-shaped biscuits from Jelena Rozga’s birthday, and now we are just waiting to see what Maksim Mrvica will bring backstage – if anything is left, we will add that too,” the post read.

“Really, isn’t it better that these 12,000 sandwiches are sold for 2 kuna instead of being thrown away?”

The humorous approach from Žabac was well received, with many praising the outlet for preventing food waste while offering a great bargain to customers.

The sandwiches are available while stocks last.
