What names are Croatians choosing for their children now? Moving away from tradition

ZAGREB, 6 March 2023 – The most popular names given to newborns in Croatia last has been revealed.

Croatia’s Ministry of Justice and Public Administration has published a list of the 50 most popular names given to newborn boys and girls in Croatia in 2022. 

A total of 34,414 babies were registered in the Croatian Birth Registry from 1 January – 31 December 2022. Most babies were born in Zagreb (11,622), followed by the Split-Dalmatia County (4,087)

The most popular name given to boys last years was Luka with 774 boys given the name in 2022.  Jakov was second (478), followed by David (474), Petar (427) and Ivan (408).

Mia was the most popular name for girls with 452 newborns given the name. Lucija (371) was the next most popular, followed by Nika (370), Mila (365) and Ema (351).
