Bad news for Croatian-American Stipe Miocic as his heavyweight title fight with Jon Jones set for UFC 295 in New York next month has been called off.

UFC boss Dana White announced on Tuesday night that Jones suffered an injury in training and has pulled out of the Nov. 11 showdown at Madison Square Garden.

“Jon Jones was training last night, got injured, he was wrestling and he tore the tendon that connects your pec to to the bone, off the bone,” White said on Twitter. “[Out] eight months, going to need surgery. He’s out.”

Sergei Pavlovich will now fight Tom Aspinall for the interim heavyweight champion. The interim title fight will serve as the co-main event, with Jiri Prochazka vs. Alex Pereira,

It is now up in the air what will happen with Miocic, who was looking sharp in his training camp.

Dana White didn’t mention why he wasn’t given the interim title fight. The fight with Jones was potentially his final bout of his career.

“Nothing is going to change, I am going to train my arse off and I am gonna beat him. I am 100 percent ready, no questions,” Miocic said earlier.

Miocic has the most consecutive title defenses in UFC heavyweight history after defending his title four times against Alistair Overeem, Junior dos Santos, Francis Ngannou and Daniel Cormier.
