Sports Journalists Name Čilić & Perković as Croatian Sportspeople of the Year

CSPIt has been a fantastic week for Croatia’s European and World Discus champion Sandra Perković…

Last week the Olympic gold medalist was named Croatian Sportswoman of the Year by the Croatian Olympic Committee, and on the weekend she claimed another title – Croatian Sportswoman of the Year – according to the nation’s sports journalists.

US Open winner Marin Čilić was named 2014 Croatian Sportsman of the Year, whilst team awards went to the Croatian Crossbow Shooting Team and champion rowing brothers Valent and Martin Sinković.

“It is nice to be the best, and it is a great feeling to accept this award, especially since it has come from journalists who understand sport and follow what is going everyday on the sports battlefield. It gives me a great incentive to keep working hard and to be even better next year,” said world number 9 Čilić, who in September lifted his very first Grand Slam trophy.

The awards, which have been going on now for 63 years, is based on voting from over 300 sports journalists from all Croatia’s main media publications. (SN)
