The renovation of the Osijek railway station building, worth approximately four million euros (excluding VAT), has been completed, and on Thursday, it was visited by the Mayor of Osijek, Ivan Radić, the County Prefect of Osječko-baranjska County, Ivan Anušić, and the President of HŽ Infrastructure, Ivan Kršić.

Kršić reported that the works took about 2.5 years and were completed about ten days ago when the building was opened for use.

“The building has been completely renovated in collaboration with conservators. We have restored it to its original appearance from 125 years ago when it was constructed. About 100 years ago, the building was plastered white, which we removed, and in addition, we have refurbished all the installations inside and brought the building up to the standard required for employees and passengers,” Kršić emphasized.

Mayor Radić expressed satisfaction that Osijek finally has a beautiful railway station building, which is part of the protected cultural and historical heritage of Osijek and is registered as such in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia.

“The building was in extremely poor, even dilapidated condition, and now we finally have a building that the Slavonian metropolis deserves,” said the Mayor of Osijek, reminding everyone that traffic infrastructure projects worth over 100 million euros are currently underway in the Osijek area.

“We recently opened an underpass, and soon we will open Vinkovačka Street. Today we will also be at the airport where the passenger terminal is expanding, worth 11.3 million euros. The tram infrastructure is being modernized. New buses have recently arrived, and we are preparing for the arrival of new low-floor trams in the spring of 2025. In the city of Osijek, there is no stopping; we continue to work, and I am confident that the citizens will feel it,” Mayor Radić concluded.

County Prefect Anušić also expressed his satisfaction with the renovation of the station building, emphasizing that the railway station is the first point of contact for passengers arriving in Osijek and Osječko-baranjska County by train.

“For us, it is crucial that the building is finally as it should be. The first contact with the passenger coming to Osijek and Osječko-baranjska County is now a beautiful building in its original form from 125 years ago. Finally, we are addressing all the issues that have been problems for years. About a month ago, we also opened an underpass on Čepinska Street. Both the City of Osijek and Osječko-baranjska County, as well as ministries, are working on all these activities, and this is one such project in a series,” concluded County Prefect Anušić.
