Croatia’s walking footballers had the chance to mix with more mobile footballers in Zagreb.

Members of the Sijede Vrijede Association were special guests at the first training session of the Croatian national football team as preparations began for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against the Czech Republic and Gibraltar.

The association, whose name translates as Grey Matters, has been promoting hodomet, a version of football adapted for older players, for more than two years.

President Ivo Bulaš, secretary Iva Radušić, and the association’s first ambassador, Zorislav Srebrić, thanked the leadership of the Croatian Football Federation (HNS) and national team coach Zlatko Dalić for their hospitality and support.

Over the weekend, the Sijede Vrijede selection played a friendly match in Skopje against local hosts, ending in a 2–2 draw.

Among their next goals is the organisation of a regular walking football league in Zagreb.

The rules of hodomet are specifically adapted to the needs of older participants.

Running is not allowed, only walking, and there is no physical contact, high balls, or heading.

The game’s focus is on safety and enjoyment, ensuring that players can stay active while minimising the risk of injury.

With initiatives like Sijede Vrijede, football continues to unite generations and promote an active lifestyle, reminding everyone that love for the beautiful game never fades with age.
