Large number of new speed cameras for Croatian roads

the latest in road safety as new radar deployments shake up speed enforcement. Stay ahead of the curve with our insightful updates

New speed cameras going up nationwide

By the end of this year, Croatia’s Ministry of the Interior (MUP) will install new boxes for fixed radars, meaning they will be at 536 locations across the country, 24sata reports.

Not all boxes will have a camera; 175 fixed radars measuring speed will be moved from location to location, so drivers will never know which speed camera box is active and which is empty

These are devices acquired by MUP at the end of 2023. Besides speed measurement, these new cameras can automatically read the license plate of offending vehicles and have the capability to measure the speed of multiple vehicles simultaneously, sending violations directly to the MUP server.

Cameras will be placed at locations that have proven to be critical.

So far, Gatso T-Series cameras have been observed, which have been used on Croatian roads since 2019. These cameras can monitor multiple lanes and, in addition to speed control, also cover monitoring of the passenger cabin. They can thus record whether the driver is using a mobile device improperly or if they (and/or the passenger) are not wearing seat belts, Autonet says.
