An 88-year-old great-grandmother is Hajduk Split football club’s latest season ticket holder…

‘Baba’ Mara Bodrožić-Selak became an internet hit after she was spotted in the stands supporting Hajduk Split at Sunday’s derby match against Rijeka at Split’s Poljud stadium. Mara, seeing praying for her side during the match, was invited this week by Hajduk Split to visit the stadium.

The great-grandmother, who was one of four generations of the Bodrožić-Selak family at Sunday’s match, was presented with gifts by Hajduk Split Marketing Director Aljoša Bašić. Among the gifts were a membership card and a season ticket for East stands.

Mara had a walk around the Poljud stadium pitch before taking a tour of the trophy hall and other attractions at the stadium.

The sprightly 88-year-old always had a great desire to attend a Hajduk Split match, and took the opportunity of celebrating Torcida’s 65th birthday to go.

Even though most of her family members work in Germany, many came with her on Sunday from the small village Svib, near Cista Provo, where she lives. Apart from Mara, there were also her great-grandson Ivan (9), grandson Ante (31) and son Mate (63).

“I prayed to God that Hajduk wins. They unfortunately didn’t but I believe He will help next time” says Mara, who usually watches Hajduk games on TV.

“I have always been praying for Hajduk and now I’m going to pray even more passionately. I truly hope I would come again in the future. Everything for my Hajduk! All my children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and hopefully soon even their children are supporting Hajduk, so I’m also a big fan,” she said.
