Luka Modrić voted International Sports Press Association’s athlete of 2018

3 January 2019 – Croatian captain Luka Modrić has beaten Roger Federer and Novak Djoković to be voted the AIPS Best Male Athlete of 2018. 

Modrić won the men’s award whilst American artistic gymnast Simone Biles won the female athlete of 2018 title after an international poll by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS), where a panel of 359 journalists from 87 countries voted for the champions of 2018.

The FIFA Ballon d’Or and UEFA and FIFA player of the year winner won the poll with 419 votes. Novak Djoković was second with 337 votes and 4-time winner Roger Federer third in the poll with 290 votes.
