Croatian captain Luka Modrić has been awarded by Spain’s Diario AS as the “best midfielder of the decade” at the gala of “Premios AS 2023” on Monday night.

Since joining Real Madrid in 2012, Modrić has won 23 trophies with the club, including five Champions League titles.

“Contract renewal with Real Madrid? This is not the time to talk about this. I’m living the present, focused on what I have now. Let’s see what happens in the future. I try to enjoy every day, every training session. My mood is very good. I’m at the best club in the world,” said Luka Modrić as he collected the award.

Modrić also said that it would be incredible to win Champions League again: “Leipzig are doing very well in their league. But first we have La Liga and the Copa and we have to focus on that.”

“Many injuries? Yes, we have a bad streak. I want to send a lot of encouragement to everyone from here, especially to David Alaba, who fell yesterday. It’s not easy for us, but we’re hanging in there and we’re doing well. Let’s hope to continue like this until the end,” optimistically concluded Modrić.
