Respected football magazine FourFourTwo have published their list of the 100 greatest footballers of all time this week and there is only room for one Croatian on it.
Croatia captain Luka Modrić finds himself at no.79 on the list.
“Ageless, unflappable and one of the most graceful footballers of his – or any other – generation, few actually doubted whether Luka Modric would succeed when he first arrived in English football,” FourFourTwo writes.
The FourFourTwo ranking is an interesting one as not only is there no room for other Croatian greats like Zvonimir Boban, Davor Šuker or Robert Prosinečki, the list does not include either Neymar or Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
“Frankly, we could do another list of 100 great players not to even make the cut. But in the end, we’re had to pick the players we feel were the most influential in their particular era, the most memorable, the players who awed us with their talent and their achievements. In short, the 100 greatest footballers ever,” FourFourTwo said.
