Croatia coach Ante Čačić has recalled captain Luka Modrić after the Real Madrid star missed the nation’s last two FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Norway last month.

Modrić was named in the 23-man squad announced today for Croatia’s upcoming qualifier against Iceland in Zagreb on 12 November and a friendly in Belfast against Northern Ireland three days later on 15 November.

Ivan Rakitić also makes a return to the national side after also missing the previous two qualifiers, but Čačić will still be without the services of injured Juventus winger Marko Pjaca and Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren who made himself unavailable.

Croatia and Iceland are currently joint top of Group I with 7 points each after 3 matches.
