Luka Modric named among 100 best sportsmen of the 21st century

8 JUNE 2020 – Leading Spanish sport newspaper, Marca has selected the 100 best sportsmen of the 21st century. 

In their selection of the best sportsmen from 2001 – 2020, Croatia football captain and Golden Ball winner Luka Modric features in 91st place.  

So far, Marca has counted down from 100 – 31. The next 30 will be announced in the next few days.

Slovenian basketball star Luka Doncic was no. 100, with other sport stars like basketballer Shaq O’Neal, MMA star Connor McGregor, golfer Phil Mickelson, racing car driver Sebastian Vettel, former All Blacks rugby captain Richard McCaw, and Barcelona footballer Andres Iniesta on the list. 

This is further recognition for the 34-year-old Real Madrid star who has been one of the best midfielders in the world in recent years, and a year and a half ago was named the best player in the world.

Modric, who first debuted for Croatia in 2006, has 127 international caps and won silver at the World Cup with Croatia in 2018 in Russia He has won four European titles with Real.
