Ivan Rakitić Lifts UEFA Cup

UEFA CupIvan Rakitić has become the second Croatian international to lift the UEFA Cup aloft, after his side Sevilla beat Benfica last night after a penalty shootout in Turin….

Sevilla captain Rakitić was named man of the match, in a game that lacked any real chances after 90 minutes and extra-time. In the penalty shootout, Sevilla goalkeeper Beto stopped Cardozo and Rodrigo efforts, while Bacca, Mbia, Coke and Gameiro found the net. Rakitić follows in the footsteps of Darijo Srna, who captained Shakhtar Donetsk to UEFA Cup success in 2009. It was Sevilla’s third UEFA Cup triumph, after wins in 2005 and 2006.
